Sunrise announced the production of a Gundam SEED theatrical movie!

Rumors on 2ch said to be from the Sony Music Anime Fes’ 06 are that it was announced that there’ll be a Gundam SEED movie.

It is known, through a radio commercial for this month’s Newtype, that the magazine has “big Gundam SEED news” though early issues don’t appear to have come out yet to confirm what exactly that news is.

Edit: Sunrise confirms the rumors, stating this will be the first completely original Gundam feature film since Gundam F91 came out 15 years ago. Mitsuo Fukuda will be the director.

Update 2: Based on people who attended the Anime Fes, Shinn Asuka, Cagalli Yula Atha, Lacus Clyne, Athrun Zara, and Kira Yamato were featured with narration “their path takes us..” to a screen officially announcing the theatrical production. TM Revolution apparently topped off the event by saying “See ya at the movies” to the crowd.

However, it is something confusing from Wikipedia, in the google results of [Seed Destiny Movie Gundam Sunrise], the text in the results of Wikipedia’s description has been removed from Wikipedia’s Gundam SEED Destiny’s page.
A post in ToonZone’s forum had it:

According to NewType Japan, Gundam SEED Destiny is set to receive two movies. The first will be titled Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED Destiny ALTERNATE: Mirai no kagayakashii which is to come to Japanese cinemas in December. No details are known about the movie other than it is part of a duo of movies, the second one is expected towards the end of 2007.

I did a search for the title written in Kanji, and there were also no results. (unless the Kanji I wrote is wrong!!). So it must be a just rumor.

The title from Sunrise official press release says it’s a “Gundam SEED” movie, so it may definitely get a new pun after the seed ^_^!
